Polaris Stop Rides/Recalls Snowmobiles 2023

Polaris Snowmobile Recalls: Important Safety Information

Polaris, a leading name in the world of snowmobiles, has issued crucial stop rides/recalls for specific models due to potential safety concerns. These recalls affect various Model Years 2022 and 2023 snowmobiles, as well as earlier models and it is essential for owners to be aware of the details to ensure their safety.

1. Model Year 2022 PATRIOT 850 MATRYX Snowmobiles

Polaris has identified a potential risk of ring gear failure in some Model Year 2022 PATRIOT 850 MATRYX snowmobiles equipped with electric start. The failure may result in the separation of clutch components, posing an injury hazard to consumers.

  • Number of affected vehicles: Approximately 4,600 units globally
  • Incidents reported: Nine instances of ring gear failure, including four cases where clutch components separated.
  • Injuries reported: One case of personal injury associated with this concern.

Owners of affected units should immediately cease usage and contact their Polaris dealer for a free repair. It is crucial not to attempt any repairs independently.

2. Model Year 2023 PATRIOT 9R MATRYX PRO RMK and PATRIOT 9R MATRYX RMK KHAOS Snowmobiles

Another recall involves Model Year 2023 PATRIOT 9R MATRYX PRO RMK and PATRIOT 9R MATRYX RMK KHAOS snowmobiles, with an increased risk of primary (drive) clutch failure. This failure may lead to the separation of clutch components, posing a potential injury hazard.

  • Number of affected vehicles: Approximately 4,500 units globally
  • Incidents reported: 91 cases of clutch failure, including nine instances of separation.
  • Injuries reported: No known injuries associated with this concern.

Similar to the previous recall, owners are advised to stop using the impacted unit and contact a Polaris dealer for a free repair. Independent repair attempts should be avoided.

3. Model Years 2021-2023 MATRYX, 2015-2022 AXYS, and Select Model Years 2013-2014 Pro-Ride Snowmobiles

Polaris has identified a risk of fire due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) inside the fuel tank for certain snowmobile models. This risk is higher with degraded fuel, especially after extended storage.

  • Number of affected vehicles: Approximately 230,000 units globally
  • Incidents reported: 30 cases of fuel tank ruptures, including 16 incidents of fire and one reported injury.

Owners of affected vehicles should cease usage and contact a Polaris dealer for a free repair. Attempting repairs independently is strongly discouraged.

Polaris issued Stop Ride / Stop Sale notices on recent relevant dates, and these recalls are conducted in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The safety of consumers is Polaris’ top priority, and these measures are taken to address potential risks promptly.

It is crucial for owners to take these recalls seriously, prioritize safety, and follow the recommended steps to ensure their snowmobiles are repaired promptly.

Polaris has directly contacted all registered owners to provide details about scheduling the free repair. To check if your unit is affected, visit the Off-Road Safety Recalls page or call Polaris at 800-765-2747.
