Kia Vehicle Recall: Fire Warning Sparks Comprehensive Safety Measures

In a sweeping move, hundreds of thousands of Kia vehicles in Canada are being recalled following a fire warning linked to a faulty brake hydraulic electronic control unit. Transport Canada has identified a potential short circuit in the unit, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.

Kia Recall Details:

Kia Urges Immediate Action: Kia has advised owners of affected vehicles to visit a dealership promptly to have the fuse replaced.

Precautionary Measures: Kia’s precautionary measures extend to recommending owners park their vehicles outdoors and away from other structures until the fuse replacement is completed. The recall, initially announced on Sept. 26, now encompasses a total of 276,225 vehicles. The latest update to the notice was made earlier this week.

Underlying Issues: The recall is attributed to the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) in the vehicles experiencing electrical shorts due to brake fluid leaks. Hyundai, in a related concern, highlighted that the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module might leak brake fluid internally, leading to an electrical short.

Kia is taking an additional step by directly contacting affected vehicle owners via mail to provide detailed information about the recall and the necessary steps to ensure their safety.
